About
Oasis Community Church
Imagine the home where God was powerfully at work in each person's life bringing about his good purposes and plans. What if, behind closed doors, every home in our community felt like a slice of heaven on earth? On February 1, 2009, Oasis Community Church began with this mission in mind. Jesus taught us to pray, "let thy kingdom come and thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." In other words, God's desire isn't just to get people to heaven, but to get heaven to people now. Together the people of Oasis are striving to live out this Christian life and extend the love of God to our neighbors and community. Our mission statement and core values express what we hope to do and who we strive to be.
Our Mission:
We are resolved to see the Kingdom of God established behind every front door.
Our Core Values:
Community of Truth & Grace
We covenant to be a people who are together striving to be like Christ. Only through the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our people can we break free from our sin and brokenness and experience the life that God desires for each of us. We experience God’s restoring work throughout our lives as we together: dedicate ourselves to following Christ; seek His Truth as found in God’s Word; and live in accountability with one another. We believe that the Grace of God is not only what saves us, but it’s the attitude we have toward each other understanding that we are all a work in progress.
People of Prayer
We covenant to be a people who seek to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, strength and mind. A deep relationship with our Heavenly Father is the privilege and opportunity for everyone that would pursue Him in prayer. Through Christ we who were once far can now draw near. The Holy Spirit is at work in our lives and in our world responding to those prayers drawing people into a right relationship with God. Though the fullness of God cannot be contained with pen and paper, the Apostle’s Creed* reflects our central beliefs of both God’s nature and His unfolding story of salvation that leads to this communion with God.
To Know & Be Known
We covenant to live the Christ life with each other at Oasis. We are a people who intentionally choose to live in authentic relationship with one another because we recognize that we are a part of God’s family. Our desire to know and be known leads us to a commitment to one another for our mutual benefit.
Everyone on Mission
We covenant to love our neighbor as Jesus commanded. As members of the Body of Christ, we are the physical presence of Jesus extending God’s love and advancing His mission on the earth. For this to happen, we leverage our prayers, time, talents, and financial support as we go about the work of Christ in Salem and beyond.
Every Parent a Rabbi
We covenant to be parents who raise our children in the ways of the Lord. Our conviction is that the faith of the parent or guardian is the single greatest influencer upon the spiritual life of the child, so our commitment is in the equipping of the adult to disciple their child. When the church and home partner a dynamic team emerges for the benefit of future generations.
Oasis Community Church is a part of the Church of the Nazarene, which has a hundred year history of spreading the Gospel with an emphasis on God’s call to a holy life. For more information on our heritage and the practices of our denomination you can go to www.nazarene.org. More importantly, Oasis is also part of the historic Christian faith and church whose beliefs are best summarized in the Apostle's Creed.
*Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
*”catholic” meaning “universal” or “worldwide”
“Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
